The Whole Picture, the Hole Picture, Wholly Accurate and Holy Moly this is Fun!

May 26, 2021 (5:34 AM)

Well, here we are after 2 weeks of ownership. From the outside it appears that nothing has changed. On the inside, however, things are happening! Now, don't get too excited and start jumping around and stuff, by "inside" I mean inside the company, not inside the motel transforming into an apartment. We have teams of people coming together to deliver the vision of our project. The architect. The window guy. I suppose I could call him something else, but nothing else comes to mind, so the window guy it is. The property managers. The maintenance man. The fire company. The electrician. And of course our staff here at Carefree headquarters. We are all making great progress.

The window guy met last week at the property with Nate and Greg, his sidekick for the day from accounting, and measured the windows and discussed ideas on how best to retrofit the new windows. We don't have the quote in yet as he is still working up the estimate; at least we hope he is. Otherwise, why else wouldn't we have it?

The architect has had a handful of additional questions and it appears he is still 2 weeks out. He was 2 weeks out last week. I'm getting suspicious. Actually, I'm not. He just appears to be 2 weeks out and that is that. Once he has the completed plans you will see them show up here. There will be a smattering of pictures coming your way showing how we will create the apartment.

Speaking of "apartment", many know I don't care for this word. It should really be "togetherment". Seriously. Why would we put a bunch of units together and call them apart? They care clearly together. In fact, I have confirmed by walking the property, all of the units are in fact together. A Togetherment.

The fire company has put together a plan and has some options for us to consider regarding the location of the sprinkler piping, the type of material and other important matters to consider. So, we will meet on that this week and let them know the direction we will go with their questions. We are close to having that completed.

In the picture above you will see an awning that I suppose was beautiful when it was put up. We see it as kind of a nuisance for our project. It limits how the cars enter and exit the parking area and doesn't add any value. So, we are getting bids on having it removed and removing the greenish metal from around the lobby area. This will certainly modernize the building and make it consistent with the rest of the structures onsite.

We have request for bids out to redo the pool. It would be awesome to get that done asap so the few residents we do have can enjoy it. It is summer after all. Having an unusable pool really doesn't do anyone any good, does it? Bids should be in shortly and we can begin the work on it right away.

What is this picture of you may ask? Have you ever received a gift and was curious as to what is inside? You know, like the one from grandma and wondering if it's a pair of socks, some memory item from grandpa, a t-shirt or maybe a book she read when she was a kid? That reminds me of my cousin's husband. When he was a kid he saw a present to him under the tree. He thought it was a wrapped hockey puck and he and his buddies played hockey with it. On Christmas morning when he opened it, much to his surprise, was a completely destroyed digital alarm clock. Oops! Ok, back to the hole-in-the-wall.

In our initial walk we were told that if the drywall was too thin we would have to add a layer to make it up-to-date to current fire code. We had to explore deeper. We had to do some detective work. So, there was a hole cut in the wall ... and it's solid concrete underneath! So, all interior walls meet the fire code and we do not have to have the expense to add drywall. It appears we do, however, have the expense of a hole in the drywall repair...

Lastly, on this long and wordy report is the sign. Not much to add besides the mockup of how it could look when finished. We have a sign company giving us the bid and we are excited to get our huge monument signage updated! Doesn't it look amazing?!?

And, that is our project from my corner of the globe. ~Bruce
