Peek Behind the Curtain
We have had great progress the last few weeks and I am excited to share the updates with you. As much as I love using clichés, I figured we would "take a peek behind the curtain"; which is a strange phrase because most companies don't even have curtains. We DO have curtains but what I am going to share with you isn't behind them. What is behind the curtains within the walls has already been shared and those were the uncovered covered windows. I figured I would "take you backstage" and share what is back there. And, for the life of me, cannot find the backstage. I have literally searched everywhere and there is no backstage. And, to make matters even more confusing, there is no stage at all. At least, there is none at Thunder Mountain which is nestled in the beautiful city of Sierra Vista with Huachuca Mountains as an incredible backdrop. Nope. None there.
Under the Rug & Not Behind The Curtains
It's super exciting to see what we find as we dig into this demo portion of the project! The things we uncover sometimes make you scratch your head. Other times we just shake our heads. And sometimes we just smile and nod. What else can we do? The hidden things we didn't notice. The hidden things we couldn't notice until we peeked behind the walls and under the rug. The latest thing we uncover is something put there by somebody who didn't fully think this through. Or, maybe they did and thought it was a good idea; which it wasn't. If you look closer you might see what they did. It has to do with a cord coming out from the PTAC (aka the AC unit) and runs under the carpet and along the edge of curtains which we are not peeking behind today.
Here is a clue:
Lurking Under the Rug
They went through the work to add electrical and didn't even take the initiative to at least run it up against the base of the door and wall. It's a trip hazard. Ok. It's a little small for a trip hazard I suppose. Nonetheless, they put it there and it shouldn't be there. It was a bad idea. As my 12-year old said to me the other day, "The audacity of people". Yep. That stopped me dead in my tracks (another cliché...) as I spun around. I asked her where she learned the word "audacity" and she said she has heard it a few times in the audiobooks she listens to. It was used perfectly and in context. That was an awesome moment.
Here is to where the electrical line lurks:
Look to Where it Lurks
So, we will address this and not sweep it under the rug.
Backstage - if we had one
Time for us to "peek behind the curtain" and "take you backstage" if we had curtains and a backstage in the units; which we don't because the curtains have been removed and there is no stage. I suppose we could "peel the onion" and see what's inside. For those of you who don't know, it's just more onion until you have no onion left. Just don't shed any tears.
Now for the great update. Finally. It's about time I get to the point, hey? As I mentioned earlier, we have had great progress these past few weeks. At this point there are 50 units demoed. And of those, 1/2 have the kitchens already framed in. Expect pics of this in next week's blog. The remaining 1/2 will have kitchens framed in by that time. These units are ready for the next phase which includes electric and sprinkler system piping.
The rough-in plumbing is being done in the 50 units which are demoed and will also be done this week. Included in this plumbing portion is to delete the toilet drain. This is a term used by some in construction. In other words, as you may have guessed, it is being removed. Kaput. Gonesville. That's a good thing because it would be weird to have a toilet drain in the kitchen. At least I have never seen that before. And, the plumbing for the kitchen will be roughed in as far as they can get before we can complete the walls and add cabinets.
Behind the Curtain
Our temporary property manager is doing a good job with increasing traffic. As of the writing of this blog, of the 20 units we have available for rent on daily or weekly or monthly basis, but no long-term leases, there are 10 rented. And she has commitments on 3 more. This is awesome to get people to stay there, even during construction. I know, it's not much. But, hey! It is something. And, it keeps our property on the forefront so when we are ready to sign leases we will have traction.
And that is our project from my corner of the globe ~Bruce
