Creating a future not yet imagined using tools not yet invented. What's next? Hiring employees not yet born? What does it mean to "remember the future?" How is that even possible? Or, is it? These questions are ones that I had when I first heard this phrase. How could we possible remember the future? As I read on it became as clear as the windows we will install at Thunder Mountain in the coming weeks.
Creating a future not yet imagined. When we first walked Thunder Mountain I had visions of how the property would look when we are complete. As I walked the property on Tuesday I saw the things I imagined coming to life! It's awesome! The crews are cutting holes in the block to open the walls to create the 1Bed units. The units are taking shape. And, as I mentioned in last week's blog, there is electrical in some of the walls. The good news? I saved 15% by switching to... no, wait, that's a commercial. The good news is the ground floor units appear to not have the electrical conduit in the walls where the doorways will be. So, big win there! They have a plan in place on how to demo without severing the electrical. And, after the doorway is cut they can reroute the conduit. I love demo. I told the guys I saw a sledge hammer in one of the units and I wanted to bust through some walls too! Do you know what they told me? To leave it to the pros. As my dad used to always say, "Huh! Fine thing!"
Using tools not yet invented. What...wut? How could that be where we would use a tool that is not invented? If we can use it, isn't it already invented? What is a tool? I suppose many of you are thinking specifically of a construction tool, such as a hammer, a saw or a screwdriver. Just so you know, those tools have been invented. I am not talking about those. In fact, I am not talking at all. I am typing. And, I am not referring to those kinds of tools. What kinds of tools then? By one definition: "anything used as a means of performing an operation or achieving an end." Aha! Another way to look at it is to use situations or ideas to further a cause. So, not physical tools then. Some of the tools are simply creative thought used by those in the field while facing and overcoming challenges. These too are tools. This is awesome. I am always amazed at the ingenuity of workers in the field faced with adversity. Many simply do not give up.
Remember the future. This brings us to remembering the future. This phrase is wonderful as it makes me pause to see that we are realizing today what was envisioned in the beginning. The sprinkler piping is being run. The fire alarm system, both visual and auditory (as in flashing lights and blaring sirens), is being wired. the doorways are being cut in. AND, the upstairs units in the main wing are being demoed so those installing the sprinklers can move into that area next. They expect to have the lines run in phase I by the end of next week and then move directly into phase II. The electricians for the major electrical are starting their work at the end of month. The framing in the units for holding the electrical panels and housing the plumbing and electrical is being installed as we speak. Progress is being made. Tools are being used.
Phase II, the upstairs units of the main building, is being demoed as mentioned. As you can see from the picture, the demo is happening while working directly behind them in line is the framing for electric as well as the wall for installing the cabinets. This works really well unless the framers get ahead of the demo crew ... then we have a situation on our hands! So far so good.
The occupancy is holding steady at between 10-15 units occupied week after week. They are all on short-term agreements. However, there are a number of occupants who have been there longer than a month. As mentioned previously, we are unable to sign leases until we have the certificate of occupancy of phase I. The onsite management is doing a terrific job keeping the place clean and devoid of problems. We are quite pleased.
And that is our project from my corner of the globe ~Bruce
