Thunder Mountain Apartments. Apartments. Have you ever wondered why they are called "apartments" when they are all stuck together? English is weird. Like driving on a parkway and parking on a driveway. Oh, and when your alarm is going off why do people tell you to shut if off? I mean, it's going off anyway. Let it go. Off. I know, you can get overwhelmed with English. Or underwhelmed if you don't even care. Or maybe just whelmed, which is the same as overwhelmed. Isn't English fun?
Ok. Back to the things that are all connected called apartments. I like to use the word "Togetherment". Doesn't that make way more sense? Sometimes when someone asks what I do for a living I say, "I'm in the Togetherment business." They nod, pause, and then say..."Wait, what?" Then I explain that they know them as apartments. However, the word apartment is divisive whereas the word Togetherment is inclusive. And, we love being inclusive at Bakerson when we create communities which are striving to be safe, functional, durable and clean. Togetherments.
Here are a few updates for you this week. We chose the layout of the windows and let the architect know. We are almost to the point of applying for permits. Almost. In regards to the windows, we sent our down payment on those. Once they are ready they will deliver the windows to the property and we will have them on hand for when we begin the work. We have also made our next payment to the architect. He should be able to wrap up the bulk of his work soon!
We are visiting with the electrician, shocking isn't it? Sorry, couldn't resist. Back to the windows for a moment. When I said we chose the layout of the windows above I was ready to write that I prefer Apple. But, I figured it would be lost on Windows folks so I didn't. Don't explain it to them either. The electrician said they plan to be ready to start work as soon as we have permits from the city to do the work. Once we have that we will have to pay our down payment with him. He will buy all the materials at that point and have them onsite.
Some of you may have been wondering how the combined units will look and what the layout will be. And, some of you may have no thought on it whatsoever. Being as it may, everyone will get an opportunity to get the general idea whether you were wondering or not, whether you asked or not whether you are curious or not. All that notwithstanding, here is a sketch:
This concept and floor plan is super interesting! So basically you are combining 2 motel rooms to 1 housing. Great idea! Also you are so right about the name for togetherments instead of apartments...LOL...Fun to read your blog!
