Where do you see yourself?

June 23, 2021 (6:27 AM)

A Cabin in Huachuca Mountains

The other day, well yesterday to be exact, I was riding with my daughter in her fiancĂ©'s truck outside of Anchorage and saw the name "Mirror Lake" and said, "Hey! I could see myself in that lake!". After her dad joke groan I was pondering what we see in ourselves. And, what do you know? Just a few miles down the road is "Reflection Lake". Who woulda thunk? Sometimes I wonder if the people naming the lakes and towns and stuff were wandering along wondering alone and these names popped into their heads like these thoughts did into mine.

Oddly enough, this brings me to Thunder Mountain and Sierra Vista. Could you see yourself in Sierra Vista? This place has wonderful things to offer. When I went to their website they even have a section "Welcome Snowbirds". Click the link to learn more! You may just learn that seeing yourself in Sierra Vista would be a wonderful idea! And, if you do, make sure to drop by Thunder Mountain Apartments to have a look at the excitement we have going on.

A River in Sierra Vista

Here is an update on the property nestled at 4,600 elevation near the shadows of the Huachuca Mountains. We signed the agreement with the general contractor (GC) to submit the plans to the city for permitting. I believe previously I stated that the architect would submit the plans. Technically, he submitted them to the GC working for the property management company who subsequently submitted them to the city. See? Not only government has bureaucracy. Good thing Nate is on the details and will keep track of the process. Plans are submitted. Now we wait for the city to approve them. Hope to have permits soon!

Here is something interesting. I was going to say "Here is something funny" but then someone would think "funny how?" Or, they wouldn't think it was funny as not a humorous kinda funny. Not wanting to cause confusion or a debate on what funny means as in humorous, strange or interesting, I decided not to go that route. So, here is something interesting. The city has allowed us to do short-term rentals while it is still technically a motel. In the mean time, we wanted to complete the sign soon as no permit is required. BUT.... while the building is used for short term rentals it cannot say "Apartments" on the sign! It's a Catch-22! So, we wait until we have the change in occupancy granted to change the sign. We don't have to like the rules we just need to know how to play the game. So, play the game we shall!

What? No Sign Yet?

Three units have been rented for short-term this week so far.

We will add washers and dryers so those needing temporary housing will have a place to wash their clothes and such. It's important to the guests around them that they have clean clothing. Trust me on this, we have seen some crazy things out there! This additional service at the property level will be able to be utilized once we complete the apartment conversion. No money wasted here. Besides, they are through a company who installs the washer and dryer and we do a profit sharing on the income from the laundry.

Now the fire hydrant update from the other blogs. The water company will not allow the hydrant to be moved. Not sure why. Maybe they would prefer the dog peeing on the vacant lot. Isn't it funny how we associate fire hydrants with dogs peeing? We as in me, as it were. And, yes I used "funny". In this context it works. It's funny. I have noticed something though, male dogs pee on everything, not just fire hydrants. And, if they pee on something you treasure it's not funny. The update on the fire hydrant is we will have to add one. A&R Fire will work with their engineers to figure the hydraulic pressures and report back to the water company to determine the hydrant situation and for Liberty Water approval of the aforementioned hydrant attached to their water line with the hydrant being installed on our property. Hope you followed that!

It's What Dogs Do

We got the pool bids in. And, they came in under half of what we budgeted. That's some good news! Speaking of peeing and pools, our neighbors in the neighborhood where I lived in my youth had a pool and the sign on the gate said, "Welcome to our OOL. Notice there is no P in it? Let's keep it that way." I was going to say in the neighborhood where I grew up. However, that would be a HUGE assumption I have grown up. I haven't. I may grow old but I'll never grow up! So, how do all these savings change our budget? With savings in one area and changes in other areas and additions in yet other areas, we are still at what we began with. So far so good! Great job, team! They are all doing a wonderful job. Thanks everyone! You are all awesome!

And that is our project from my corner of the globe ~Bruce
